Hey,
Can't give you any detailed info on the schools you're inquiring about, sorry. Was training at Anglo-American Aviation for my Private Pilot Certificate last summer and was fairly pleased with what I got. I believe one of them you mentioned was adjacent to ours and their aircraft appeared to be in pretty good condition, most definitely in better shape than Anglo's. Training at Gillespie is initially demanding as it is a controlled and highly frequented airport but as with everything else in life you get better at it as you go along. I'm sure you'll be fine. Weather in southern California's extremely stable, especially the more you move towards the inlands. Here and there we had some marine layers but they were usually burned off by the late morning hours. Most of the surrounding airports, e.g. Ramona, Montgomery, etc. are controlled but no landing fees charged so you should be able to throw in lots of landings and pattern work while practicing your radioing which all in all will make you more of a competent pilot.
If you ask me though, personally I'd go further north to Greyeagle Flight Academy. Was training there this summer for a taildragger conversion. Their crafts were perfectly maintained, very friendly and motivated staff and decent prices. Plus, the temperatures are ever so more bearable than in El Cajon since you get the constant breeze from the ocean.
Hope this helps. Any more questions drop me a PM. Good luck! |
