Disclaimer: I'm not promoting or advising to take the preparation *****lightly***** in anyway, and I also want to mention that if you want to stay in the safe side you must prepare hard, harder that what you are expecting in order to expect the unexpected especially if you are like me (retaking the test is not a valid option), I'm just sharing my experience with the ambitious people who are planning to become pilots through EFA.

I had some ups and downs while preparing for the test but at the end it was so much fun and I feel proud of myself that I passed the test hopping to pass the LHG assessment anyway it was pleasure to post this report and I hope it helps everyone who is intending to take the test, just bare in mind if you couldn't pass the test it does not mean that this is the end of the world, EFA is not the only flight school that provides pilot training, I hope that everyone understands this point.
----------------------------------------

Dear Aspiring Pilot's,

I would like to share my experience with the DLR test that took place in Milan as a person who had to fly long-haul to attend the test.

First of all I took the test in English language and I would like to mention here that PREPARATION IS KEY

If you are already a member of the BU community on WhatsApp that's great.

***I can highly encourage who isn't in the BU community yet to join it as I found it helpful even though one of the admins(might be a regular participant I can't remember correctly) had some kind of children's mentality, every time I used to ask a question there he used to slide into my PM and say please make your questions more selective btw my questions has been always straight to the point and will always be.

A brief introduction about myself: I'm an 18 years old aviation enthusiast who has been living his whole life somewhere in the middle east, ever since I was a very young child I was dreaming of becoming an Airline pilot especially with LH group, as soon as I finished Highschool I wanted to apply for EFA since I was considering this flight school since I was in 10th grade(2 yrs Before graduation).

My wonderful trip to Milan:

I booked a flight with Qatar Airways to MXP I booked a hotel for 2 days and 3 nights named Hotel Bonola, I arrived 2 days before the test the hotel was quite expensive and didn't deliver anything special, the breakfast was bought additionally, I paid for a King size bed) room but when I checked in the guy handed me a key for a single bed room and I couldn't argue with the guy as I was exhausted by the ~14 hrs trip. The breakfast was less than basic they didn't have scrambled eggs or any other type of eggs!!, I used to take a hot chocolate and 2 pcs of toast to dip it along with my hot drink, the staff were really friendly and kind btw I recommend u to take a taxi through the reception as the prices there are less than the commercial apps like Uber which would cost around 40 euros or Freenow which will cost around 16 euros. If you want to have a lunch or maybe a dinner there is restaurant called La Pergola (200m away from the hotel to the east of the main gate) they offer a really great Vegan pasta and Salmon pasta were delicious, If I've ever been there again I would probably eat the Vegan pasta and the prices there are budget friendly.

Preparation:

I mainly used the CBT that was sent by the DLR after the completion of the booking but I also had to use different software's for PHY/TVT and OWT (more on that later).

Keywords: BR= Best Run, ML= Max level (highest difficulty), CBT: Computer based training (the app that was sent by the DLR)

PPT: One of easiest test's of all time, I did in total 63 runs (ML) and I had an average of 100% in 12-13 minutes my BR was 100% in 11 minutes

Tips: I just made sure that the edges were matching each other.

SKT: A test that I thought it was going to be easy at the begging but as soon as I knew that I needed to achieve 90%/90 in the CBT it was like a struck into my face. I did in total 64 runs, the first time I did the test I had 83%/53 which was a complete mess but as soon as I switched to use the C-method every thing has changed anyway my average was 90-93%/83-87 items on ML my BR was 92%/89.2

Tips: Use C-method and make sure you are using a touch screen!!!!, I used Spacedesk to connect my Ipad to my Windows 11 laptop via USB**

WFG: The easiest test of all time it is actually easier than answering what is my name, I did 51 runs in total my average was 100% in 3:40 mins

Tips: I feel proud about this tip as I had developed this technique haha, this technique might be present in some German preparation books which I obv didn't use anyway u can ask anyone in the community about the Imaginary line technique or simply PM me.

OWT: A really hard test and the provided CBT is different from what u get in real test(more on that later) unless you use the ABCD technique, Well I used the infamous ABCD method what a lovely method and an easy one and yeah I used Vimana not the CBT since the real test is different from the CBT, my best was 96% vimana on 2.3 seconds per task and 98% on CBT (ML), my average was >90% using vimana but at the beginning I used to have around 43% so don't worry you will get better by practicing

Tips: Use ABCD method and if u already have Vimana use it then!

Vimana OWT setting: set it as Vimanas recommendations but change the time from 2.2 to 2.3 btw in real test u will have much more time than the CBT or Vimana but extra practice never hearts

RMS: What an annoying test this test is really useless, I've never enjoyed it, it wasn't really feasible with me I had in total 31 runs on (ML) and 12 on level 1 as the real test is more similar to level 1 than 3, My average (ML) was 4.44 to 5, Best on (ML) was 5.28 but I rarely had 5 or more, L1 average was 4.4-4.8 best was 4.92

PHY/TVT: Physics and mechanical comprehension yes I get you it is the most feared test of all time when it comes to the DLR, I used multiple sources to prepare for this test, Vimana, I translated the famous german physik script using Deepl, the german version can be found somewhere here on the board, Crash course physics by Dr.Shini Somara produced by PBS digital studios on youtube, Denksport physik an English version can be found here (https://archive.org/details/ThinkingPhysicsPracticalLessonsInCriticalThinking_201808/page/n27/mode/2up?view=theater) and the most useful one easyflighttraining app aka Lennarts app

Tips: I had to start physics from scratch as I couldn't remember anything from school except electricity special thanks to the pandemic, I felt guilty that I've tortured myself studying all of these books and softwares, My recommendation is to learn lennarts app by heart, I really mean it just learn the app for TVT you might need some preparation for PHY (slight preparation), it was very useful for TVT but when it comes to PHY things didn't went as planned (more on that later) to avoid this issue learn all Vimana's physics content I can't remember all of them, but I'll mention some of them (electricity, pressure, force, oscillations, waves, pendulums, density, doppler effect, basics of planetary motion, nuclear physics. There is an argument about nuclear physics that there will be no such question related on it but I personally studied them as I always say extra preparation never hearts, btw I had no question about this topic in my test)

ENS: I rarely used Lennart's app for this as I use English on daily basis and I have a C1 certificate so that gave me extra confidence, but I wish that I had spent some more time here, because apparently my luck ran out when I took the ENS test at the examination office (more on that later).

Tips: No

KRN: nothing to say here the CBT is not enough to prepare for the test since it is repetitive, I wish Lennart's app had KRN at my time but it wasn't published when I was taking the test (more on that later). I did 45 runs (ML) in total BR was 96%, average was 80%-88%

Tips: learn cubic number by heart up to 10 and squared up to 30, and read secrets of mental math here is the link (https://visaldiary.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/secrets-of-mental-math.pdf) and maybe use Lennarts app

VMC: A really basic test nothing was hard during the preparation, I had in total 35 (ML) runs in total BR was 91%, average was 86%, bare in mind when I started I couldn't achieve more than 76% so practice makes perfect!!

Tips: remember all symbols and colors up to 3-back, when it comes to 4,5,6-back just remember the colors

MIC: Training is not really possible here. Just read through the MIC pdf that will be sent by the DLR, you can find this document inside the CBT under Important Documents--> MIC training guide

Tips: If u still want to train, u can use either Vimana or pilottest but neither of them is any similar to real test anyway ****Do not train to much as the sensitivity is very different****

-------------------------------------------

Test Day:

I made sure to sleep at least 8:00hrs but unfortunately I couldn't make it happen, I slept 7:20 hrs so it's kind of near to my intended goal anyway, I woke up and went straight away to eat breakfast I took a cup of cappuccino and a shot of long coffee then ordered a taxi right away, the taxi took a bit more than usual to arrive it took 10 min instead of 5 min as soon as I have arrived I've met the people that joined the group that I had created called (DLR Milan 24.Oct DE / EN) then we went to the examination room which was located at Via Cilea,106 building 5 the first floor, DLR room in cooperation with AIXIA. The examiner introduced us to the examination room and showed us the facilities there. A good thing in this location that it has unlimited espresso shots that you will really need them to stay focused during the day, I myself had around 12 shots of espresso which really helped me but had a negative effect when I returned to sleep for my next flight.

Attention: I'm using the old school rating method (--,-,0,+,+)

- is bad, 0 neutral, + is good

PPT: This was the first the test while the anxiety was kicking in, I felt that the test was really different from what I learned with the CBT but I think that was just a false feeling after 2-3 tasks I started to feel just as I used to do with the CBT, some tasks were way harder than CBT but in general I would say the test went quite smooth and the test was doable.

feeling: (++)

SKT: The touch screen that the DLR uses is large I had to use my middle finger to use the C-method but the screen itself is really good but I would say my luck wasn't since the screen was frozen for the first 2 rounds, Hey can u please come the screen is frozen? I said to the examiner, Luckily the examiner was really helpful and lovely she told me to proceed just as normal for now, she will let me re-do the test at the end of the day.

feeling: (--)

Break(15 min): 2 shots of espresso

RMS: Similar to the CBT but there were no such ending sequence e.g. 323737,2423,3538,8985, etc

feeling:(0)

OWT: I didn't pay much attention for differences here since ABCD method has no issues with any differences between CBT or BU but I guess the distances were not -+2 they were often -+3 and the size of the watches were quite larger than the one's in the CBT which is great, I guess at maximum I had only 2 wrong inputs out of 80

feeling: (++)

TVT: I was really excited to this part as I have especially been preparing for this test really intensely, I was really surprised to see that the majority of the questions were not only similar but identical to Lennart's app (easyflighttraining) at this point I realized that I really didn't need that intense preparation but as soon as I'll change my mind ( more on that later)

Time: 40 tasks in 30 minutes

feeling: (++)

Break(10 min): 2 shots of espresso

WFG: Was way different than CBT the lines can over cross and the lines are really thin you can barely see the lines but the test went smooth and no other problems here.

feeling: (+)

PSY: Nothing too special here, I just answered as honestly as possible

feeling: (0)

Lunch break(1 hour): 4 shots of espresso

VMC: Finally something was Identical to the CBT symbols were the same but the size of the symbols were luckily larger than CBT which is really good thing, thankfully 6-back was not there!, I had (1x2-back, 2x3-backs, 2x4-backs, 1x5-backs)

feeling: (++)

KRN: What a shitshow it was really hard and rough as I mentioned before the CBT is not enough for preparation at all!! , I think I had only 15 correct tasks out of 25 so I can say nothing less than it was a disaster!!!

feeling: (--)

Break(10 min): 2 shots of espresso

MIC: We had 40 minutes of preparation which was more than enough to be ready + 15 minutes real test the test consisted 12 rounds if I remember correctly it is not hard but rather stressful and fun at the same time!

feeling: (0)

Break(10 min): 2 shots of espresso

PHY: This part was really hard it consisted a lot of questions that not even a real physics professor is going to be able to solve them so in this parts I had to guess a lot of question and I also had to use the previous knowledge that I had with the intensive preparation so it was an educated guess Smile

Time: 40 tasks in 30 minutes

feeling: (-)

ENS: This test was really really really hard, we had 60 question in 20 minutes I asked others they said that the test was fairly easy to them so I think my bad luck played a big role in getting a very hard question poll, there were some words that I've never heard them or knew them before!!!

feeling: (--)

TWQ: I was really tired at this point and I just wanted to have some rest as my back started to pain. I answered randomly

feeling: (0)

SKT(Round 2): Was identical to the CBT nothing special here, the screen is really responsive so I guess I've achieved a new high score here

feeling: (+)

------------------------------------

5 days later, the results were sent to the candidates via email
