265. Austrian Airlines strategy paper in favour of sale to S7 Airlines - reports

An internal strategy paper sourced to unspecified circles close to the listed Austrian Airlines (AUA) recommends a sale to private Russian S7 Airlines, Wirtschaftsblatt reported. The Austrian daily did not disclose from which source it obtained the strategy paper. The article claimed that the mentioned strategy paper includes numerous arguments for a sale of AUA to S7 Airlines, while it states reservations against the listed German airline giant Lufthansa acquiring a stake in AUA. The report suggested that S7 Airlines would uphold the flight network of AUA and lead AUA towards growth. Meanwhile, Der Kurier, another Austrian daily, cited sources close to the listed Air France-KLM as saying that the French airline is still very interested in AUA and will try everything to gain access to the bidding process of AUA. The article pointed out that Air France-KLM, which believes that none of the bidders filed a bid that was in line with the tender conditions, has already held talks with OeIAG. The report explained that Air France-KLM wants all three bidders that were shortlisted for AUA to be given the chance to file another bid. As previously reported, the shortlisted bidders for AUA were Air France-KLM, S7 Airlines and Lufthansa. However, OeIAG made clear in Der Kurier that Air France-KLM did not file a final offer and did therefore not meet the tender conditions for the privatisation of AUA. As previously reported, the Austrian government only recently extended the privatisation mandate for AUA until the end of this year. Recent articles confirmed that OeIAG, the Austrian state holding, holds a 41.6% stake in AUA. AUA has a market cap of EUR 247m.
